Reverse Word Lookup enables you to look for a word or phrase by definition, just as in a thesaurus or reverse dictionary. But Reverse Word Lookup is a bit different in that it features obsolete words, rare words, obscure words, English dialect words, Scottish words, American dialect words, colloquialisms, and slang words - both old and new. So if you're looking for words and phrases that are not common or usual, you'll find them here!
Reverse Word Lookup is an ongoing project. Many sources are being used, so as well as words and phrases constantly being added, definitions, dates, etc., will change and/or be added to.
Please note that a number of the words are derogatory and may be offensive to some. This is especially true of a lot of the slang entries. But that's what slang is - rude and vulgar. So keep that in mind, and remember this is merely a record of such words.
Also note that the date, when shown, is of the earliest documented use of the word or phrase (where possible), and not when it was first used. The dates given in sources tend to vary, so the given date should be regarded as being approximate.
When no date is available, the publication date of the source book is used.
Enjoy!
